The longest running non-profit regional farm and ranch show in South Texas celebrated its 32nd anniversary Oct. 19-20 at the Victoria Community Center, where an estimated 3,000 farmers and ranchers crowded into a show full of issue-oriented special educational sessions, keynote speakers, and plenty of workshops where participants could earn required continuing education units (CEUs). Texas AgriLife Extension's Matt Bochatt, county agent in Victoria County, says the annual South Texas event is one of the two largest regional farm shows in Texas with more  than 25 speakers, 140-plus vendors, and multiple opportunities for producers to participate in CEU courses.

This year's luncheon speakers included Darrell Glaser, the 2014 U.S Family Farm Environmental Excellence Award Winner, who addressed participant's on Wednesday about the need for production agriculture sustainability. On Thursday, Dr. Susan Ballabina, Executive Associate Director for Texas AgriLife Extension, talked about the need to debunk the many myths of agriculture.

The South Texas Farm and Ranch Show attracts agricultural producers from as far away as the Rio Grande Valley in the South and the Upper Texas Coastal Bend as far as Houston to the north. Bochatt says the show is the largest of its kind south of San Antonio.
