There's apparently a war going on in the world of pickup trucks. At one time it was about the most torque, or raw horsepower. Today it's about who has the full-length skylight and the better leather interior. At least that's the game from Ford, with its launch of the Super Duty Limited series.

The new trucks were launched during the state fair of Texas, a popular place to roll out new pickups — as we showed recently with the new Ram pickup, which itself was luxury-focused.

With the Limited series, which is a package available on the F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty pickups, pricing ranges from $80,835 to $87,100 — and you read that right.

The top end F-450 Super Duty Limited is capable of towing more than 30,000 pounds, which the company noted is about the weight of an Air Force F-35 fighter plane. An interesting comparison for sure, but on the farm that truck will haul plenty, too.

In a statement announcing the line, Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager, commented that the lineup is a "win for all of our customers, from successful ranchers to contractors to RV owners." He added that the Limited series is the most luxurious and advanced heavy-duty pickup truck created by the company for "those accomplished buyers with an appetite for the high life, and the hard-earned dollars to match."

And while the top-end F-450 Super Duty Limited can be had for $87,100, if that's not enough, checking all the luxury option boxes will get you a $94,455 pickup.

Appetite for luxury
There are some interesting facts about this market. Eckert noted that more than 50% of Super Duty retail sales this year are high-end models including Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum vehicles. Of course, the Limited goes even further.

The interior is upholstered in custom Camelback two-tone leather seats. It has a premium stitched, leather-wrapped steering wheel, armrests and an instrument panel. There's a Miko suede headliner, hand-finished dark ash wood trim, and plenty of badges to let you know you own a vehicle in the Limited Series.

On the outside, you'll find a twin-bar satin grill with chrome accents, quad-beam LED lights and satin-finished tailgate appliqué. You can even find a dedicated serial number laser-etched on the center console armrest.

The trucks also come standard with a range of tech features, including a high-definition 360-degree camera with Trailer Reverse Guidance; Sync 3, the company's proprietary smartphone interface; adaptive cruise control; lane-keeping alert; forward collision warning with brake support; a flat-rear loading floor with fold-up locking storage; those exclusive LED headlamps; panoramic moonroof; heated and ventilated front seats, with heated rear seats; and a leather-trimmed, heated steering wheel.
