Osborne Industries Inc. has released of a new feed flow adjustment system for the company’s line of Big Wheel Pig Feeders. All standard dry and wet-dry nursery, wean-to-finish, and 60-head finishing feeders feature the new Feed Flow Control, making adjusting and setting feed flow fast and easy.

The all new Feed Flow Control features an easy-to-read, numbered positioning system that is simple to adjust and set. An added spring enables Big Wheel Pig Feeder users to easily make micro-adjustments to the cone height inside the feed hopper at any time — even if the hopper is full of feed. The new control readily installs on all existing feeders.

Big Wheel feeders have long been known for their ability to improve feed-to-gain ratios while virtually eliminating feed waste. Their highly engineered, mechanical flow feed delivery system and round trough design relies on pigs — not gravity — to introduce feed into the eating trough. The Big Wheel’s self-regulating feature is caused by a combination of close hopper-to-trough spacing and gravity-eliminating cone in the hopper.

Micro-adjustments can be made to feed flow using the new Feed Flow Control based on feed type or moisture content. The self-cleaning, round trough and large head spaces of the feeders naturally spread pigs radially around the feeder, reducing wasteful competition.

Osborne Industries patented mechanical-flow feeding in the 1980s. After years of continued improvements, the Big Wheel Hog Feeder remains one of the best-selling self-feeders in the industry. Made of reinforced composite troughs and hoppers, as well as several heavy steel metal components, Big Wheel Feeders are manufactured at the company’s world headquarters, situated on 10.5 acres in the Osborne Industrial Park. The facility occupies 242,000 square feet of manufacturing, warehouse and office space.

Osborne Industries is a 100% employee-owned company founded in 1973 by a group of Osborne city leaders with the vision to preserve a small rural community by providing employment opportunities in north central Kansas. This group of businessmen organized a small manufacturing company called Osborne Industries Inc.

The first manufacturing facility was housed in the 4-H building at the county fairgrounds and involved the hand processing of one product, the Stanfield heat pad. By 1976, Osborne Industries developed a closed molding process, later known as Resin Transfer Molding, and launched the development of a new low-cost method of Reaction Injection Molding in 1993. Its diversity of products ranges from OEM industrial components across multiple industries to a full line of proprietary swine management equipment.
