When John Deere rolled out its new 7760 module-building cotton picker, growers quickly learned that one of the tasks associated with conventional modules had quadrupled. Instead of having to spray paint numbers on one module, they now had to tag four of them. Deere recently unveiled a new Harvest ID system which reads the information on an RFID tag that comes imprinted in the plastic wrap that surrounds the modules and relays the information to the Greenstar 3 2630 Display screen in the picker cab. Deere’s Janae Tapper discussed the new system in an interview at Deere’s Technology Summit in Des Moines, Iowa.
