Four Farm Progress editors spent their time at Husker Harvest Days combing the grounds for new products. Each selected a favorite new product highlighted here. Dozens of new products found at fall farm shows will be highlighted on magazine websites and in print soon.

The new products team included Tom J. Bechman, Indiana Prairie Farmer; Sarah McNaughton, Dakota Farmer; Kevin Schulz, Nebraska Farmer and Dakota Farmer; and Mindy Ward, Missouri Ruralist. Here are their choices. Check out the captions for more details.

Sarah’s selection

Sarah spotted a new trend in the building world — structures that can be used as shops and houses. She says you can call them “shouses” for “shop houses,” or you can call them “barndominiums.” Whatever you call them, they’re worth a closer look!

Kevin’s ‘king’ choice

During a drought, farmers want to get water to their crops, and they don’t want downtime in their irrigation system. Western Irrigation came up with a combination of solutions to keep water flowing. Check it out.

Mindy’s ‘most interesting’

It’s been 17 years in the making, but Arrowquip introduced its new cattle chute, the General, and it grabbed Mindy’s attention. It was designed with cattle flow, access and restraint in mind. The company made it versatile for use in large feedlots or on a cow-calf operation as well.

Tom’s top pick

Tom wins the prize for finding the cheapest and simplest new product. Electric fence insulators that light up when the fence is “hot”and are off if it’s not caught his attention because he grew up on a small dairy farm, and spent his summers fighting electric fence problems. Is it “hot” or not? You can decide!
