The Environmental Protection Agency has approved the registration of DuPont Staple LX herbicide for over-the-top weed control in all types of cotton.

“The new formulation delivers the same proven performance of current Staple in a more convenient, cost-effective and easy to apply formulation,” said Mike Cunnane, DuPont product manager.

DuPont says the new herbicide is a good fit for growers going into Roundup Ready Flex Technology, LibertyLink and standard Roundup Ready programs.

“Staple LX is the most versatile over-the-top tank-mix partner in cotton,” Cunnane said. “It can be applied over-the-top with Roundup for maximum morning-glory control, as well as residual grass suppression. Staple LX is the only tank-mix partner specifically designed for over-the-top applications with Roundup Ready Flex Technology up to 60 days prior to harvest.”

“Staple LX provides improved contact activity to a Roundup tank-mix, plus soil residual control of teaweed and glyphosate-tolerant pigweed and residual suppression of morning glory, smartweed and coffee bean. It also enhances grass suppression compared to Roundup alone, giving growers more options in timing their herbicide applications to weed size.

“Application timing is important to effective weed control in cotton,” Cunnane said. “Staple LX gives growers a wider window between early applications of Roundup, which is especially critical in years when wet conditions may keep them out of the field when they need to spray. We recommend Staple LX be added to the first over-the-top post shot with Roundup.”
