Two organizations that support the agriculture industry by linking college and tech school students to future employment recently announced updates impacting their outreach.

AgCentric, a partnership formed in 2014 by Central Lakes College, Northland Community and Technical College and Ridgewater College, now has St. Cloud Community and Technical College as its newest member.

AgCentric focuses on supporting agriculture career development and Farm Business Management programs; reaching out to legislators to promote agricultural education; advocating for ag literacy; and fostering education and training in eight ag career pathways with its partner colleges. Careers tracks range from online introduction to agriculture courses to drone operations and management training.

According to a news release, St Cloud Tech will contribute to AgCentric by bringing in additional industry partners, and farm business management experience and advocacy opportunities to a diverse urban audience.

Ag student organization changes name
The National Professional Agricultural Student Organization, which provides professional development for two- and four-year ag students at the college level, has changed its name and brought a new director on board.

Formerly known as the National Post-Secondary Agricultural Student Association, the organization changed its name to the National Professional Agricultural Student Organization (PAS), believing the new name better reflects the organization’s vision as a leadership and career development organization serving college agriculture students and the agriculture industry.

Also, PAS hired Mary Kay Delvo of Fridley, Minn., as its executive director and national officer coordinator. Delvo has more than two decades of experience in private, public, organizational, nonprofit and educational workplaces and program development. She also worked for Minnesota AgriGrowth, serves as the Fridley school board chairwoman, and is a Minnesota Ag and Rural Leadership program alum.

For nearly 40 years, PAS has been developing professional agriculture students at the two- and four-year college levels for the workplace through participation in employment experience programs, skill-set development, networking opportunities and organizational activities. PAS develops students into highly prepared, professional and passionate employees. To learn more, contact Delvo at [email protected].
