Potato growers who were turned down earlier may now be accepted for coronavirus aid, according to the Northern Plains Potato Growers Association (NPPGA).

The USDA Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) that is being administered by Farm Service Agency still has funds available for potato producers who qualify, according to program guidelines.

Because of some early confusion regarding qualification for potato producers, the number of applicants remains low. There is still money available in the program

If USDA approves revisions to the CFAP, there may be an opportunity for additional producers to qualify — or additional money may be paid to those producers who have filed an application prior to the application deadline, which is currently Sept. 11. USDA has not said whether the deadline will be extended.

FSA has confirmed that any producers can make application for CFAP funds, whether they currently qualify for the program or not.

If you experienced price loss due to the coronavirus, consider filing an application with FSA by Sept. 11 — so you are in the system in the event program parameters change in your favor.
