Developing cotton marketing plan focus of March 27 workshop

COLLEGE STATION – Brazos Valley cotton farmers can learn more about developing a comprehensive marketing plan by attending a March 27 Advanced Topic Series workshop.

The workshop, sponsored by Texas Cooperative Extension and industry partners, will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the College Station Conference Center. Cost is $75 and advanced registration is required.

Producers will learn about the current supply-demand conditions and price outlook, plus applicable marketing strategies. A discussion about planning and implementing marketing plans also will be presented.

"Our goal is for participants to leave the program with at least a written outline, if not a rough written contingency plan, of what they actually intend to do that year," said Dr. John Robinson, Texas Cooperative Extension cotton marketing economist.

O.A. Cleveland, retired Mississippi State cotton economist, and Robinson will be the lead instructors for the workshop.

The Advanced Topic Series, now in its fifth year, consists of one- and two-day short courses that combine lectures, small working groups and simulation exercises to help producers understand market dynamics.
