Delta native named to head Delta Council Industrial Department

FRANK HOWELL, a native of Coahoma County, Miss., and a member of the Delta Council staff since 1994, has been named director of the Council's Industrial and Community Development Department.

In announcing the appointment of Howell, who has served as Delta Council's director of public affairs and communications for the past eight years, Al Rankin, the chairman of the board for the development department, said the Delta Council personnel committee voted unanimously to offer Howell the job.

“We have been interviewing candidates for this position since August of last year, and quite frankly, none of them possessed the background or dedication to the strong work ethic which Frank Howell has shown us during the years he has been with Delta Council,” said Rankin. “We are confident that he can work with public officials, business leaders, and potential investors in the Delta in a way which will make a difference.”

The 31-year old Clarksdale native, who will head up the region's industrial and community development program, is a 1993 graduate of Rhodes College. Prior to going to Delta Council, Howell was a staff writer for the Clarksdale Press Register. He also served as communications director for the successful 1992 congressional campaign of Blanche Lincoln. Lincoln now serves as a U.S. senator from Arkansas.

“Those of us who work on industrial recruitment, trade shows, and community preparedness at the local level know Frank through his years of work with Delta Council, and we are extremely pleased to see that Delta Council has recognized his abilities and moved him up to fill this vacancy,” said Allan Hammons, the industrial recruitment leader for Greenwood and Leflore County, Miss.

Howell is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Howell of Clarksdale.
