Two public stakeholder workshops and one webinar are scheduled next week to assist applicants to California's Dairy Digester Research and Development Program.

The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is accepting applications for the Alternative Manure Management Program (AMMP), one of two programs designed to reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions.

The program will provide $9-16 million dollars in grants to California dairy and livestock operators to implement non-digester manure management practices that reduce their methane emissions. (Each grant may be up to$750,000).

The upcoming AMMP grant opportunity is not to be confused with the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Dairy Digester Research and Development Program (DDRDP) whose application period closed on June 28, 2017.

Earth First Construction, a California educational non-profit organization, under a grant from the CDFA is holding four free Technical Assistance Workshops. These workshops will provide technical assistance with the application process and are free of charge. At the two-hour workshop participants will learn about the application process, scoring and how to submit the application through the online application tool, the Financial Assistance Application Submittal Tool (FAAST). Applications and all supporting information must be submitted electronically using FAAST byOct. 2 at 5 p.m. PDT.

These workshops are appropriate:

  • For applicants who are applying for this year’s grant application due on Oct 2;

  • For applicants who are completing an application for this year’s grant application; and,

  • For first applicants who are considering applying for next year’s grant application

An expert consultant in the industry, Jeff Weisel, Dairy Advisor, Chosen Acres, will be available at the free workshop at the International Agri-Center in Tulare on Sept. 11, as well as the three additional workshops at the Tulare County Library in Visalia.

The AMMP is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide program that puts billions of cap-and-trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy and improving public health and the environment. The cap-and-trade program also creates a financial incentive for industries to invest in clean technologies and develop innovative ways to reduce pollution.

The free workshops are funded for the dairy farmer community by the CDFA.
