Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin (Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board) election results show that three incumbents were defeated in an election certified by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. The election closed May 24.      

In District 12, representing Waushara and Wood counties, Steve Pankrats ousted incumbent Ken Heiman. Gayle Klickner unseated Kevin Wallaser in District 21, representing Crawford and Vernon counties. And incumbent Tina Hinchley was defeated by Virgil Haag in District 24, representing Dane and Jefferson counties.

The only incumbent facing re-election to be re-elected is Jeff Strassburg, who defeated Donald Robaidek in District 9, representing Shawano and Waupaca counties.

In District 6, representing Chippewa and Eau Claire counties, Vivian Thompson is stepping down from the board and will be replaced by Douglas Danielson, who beat Jaclyn Backhaus.

DFW directors guide the organization’s finances, formulate and set its policies and long-range business plan, and maintain its mission: to help grow demand for Wisconsin milk by providing programs that enhance the competitiveness of the Wisconsin dairy industry. Through these initiatives, a DFW director has the opportunity to represent Wisconsin dairy producers and products, as well as become involved in activities that inform and educate consumers.

About 2019 election

In the 2019 election, there were 14 certified candidates running for eight board member positions. Of the 2,659 dairy producers living in the election districts, per DATCP records, 16.8% returned ballots. That is an increase in election return over the previous year. District 24 recorded the most election participation, with 27.7% of eligible producers district voting.
