Time to check corn, soybeans before harvest

Slideshow: 20 groups of farmers and Extension personnel checked fields for corn and soybean conditions before harvest.

More than 20 groups of farmers, ag industry people and Extension personnel ventured out into corn and soybean fields in late August to check the condition of corn and soybeans before the harvest begins.

In Lancaster and Lebanon counties, a group of farmers and ag industry personnel visited seven farms to estimate yields in corn and soybean fields.

Group leader Del Voight, agronomy Extension educator for Penn State, says overall yields look good with varying amounts of insect and disease pressure.

Each group is providing reports on their individual tours with final numbers to give an overall sense of how each crop is looking this year.

American Agriculturist went along for the tour in Lebanon County. Get a look at the tour by clicking through the slideshow.
