PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT: Farmers use herbicides efficiently to reduce weed competition in crops, as well as to protect the environment.Farm Progress

Best management practices are implemented across the entire agriculture landscape, and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture is seeking input to understand the use of herbicide management practices implemented by crop producers.

An online survey is available with the intent of aiding the MDA to better serve Minnesota producers.

MDA, in cooperation with the University of Minnesota Extension and other interested parties, developed general herbicide-use Best Management Practices to protect Minnesota water quality. In addition, water quality BMPs have been developed for specific herbicides, such as atrazine and acetochlor, which have been frequently detected in Minnesota surface or groundwater.

An online Agricultural Herbicide Best Management Practices Adoption Survey was developed to gauge the current use of these practices. The survey is anonymous and will not be used for enforcement in any way.

The deadline to participate in the Agricultural Herbicide Best Management Practices Adoption Survey is April 4.
