The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service estimates that Minnesota’s corn grain production during 2016 is at 1.54 billion bushels — the state’s highest production on record.

Grain corn yield is estimated at 193 bushels per acre, 5 bushels above the previous record yield set in 2015.

NASS estimates that 8 million acres for grain were harvested, about 400,000 acres above 2015.

Corn for silage production is estimated at 8.39 million tons, down 13% from 2015. The silage yield estimate of 21.5 tons per acre is unchanged from 2015. Producers harvested 390,000 acres of corn for silage, a decrease of 60,000 acres from 2015.

Soybeans and sugarbeets shine just as bright, too.

NASS estimates Minnesota soybean production last year at 394 million bushels — also the highest on record. Growers averaged 52.5 bushels per acre in 2016 — another record — up 2.5 bushels from 2015’s record yield. Harvested soybean acreage of 7.5 million was down 50,000 acres from 2015.

NASS estimates sugarbeet production at 12.5 million tons, with yields averaging 30 tons per acre. Sugarbeet production and yield are both the highest on record.
