Forage Forum Friday series could make you money

Join in on this free six-week virtual series to learn about all things forage.

If you graze livestock on pasture, make and bale hay or harvest haylage, there is a new opportunity for you to learn about down-to-earth, thought-provoking, moneymaking topics from the comfort of your home or office.

Purdue University Extension will offer a six-week virtual series on timely topics beginning March 12. The new series is called “Forage Forum Fridays.” They’re free and begin at noon EST each Friday for six weeks.

Keith Johnson, Purdue University Extension forage specialist, says several members of the Indiana Forage Council Leadership Team, all also members of Purdue Extension, have put the series together. They include Elysia Rodgers, Mark Kepler, Brooke Stefancik, Miranda Edge and Johnson.

The kickoff session on March 12 will feature a discussion on forage species selection. It will be followed on March 19 by a session on pasture development and renovation. Tune in and take notes while there is still time to apply some of these strategies in 2021.

The March 26 session will get you ready for the haying season. The topic for that Friday will be making high-quality dry hay. It will be followed on April 2 with a session on making high-quality haylage or baleage. Learn about techniques that are working for various people in the industry.

The session on April 9 will feature how to manage pastures properly. This will likely include discussion of weed control in pastures, which was highlighted in a popular virtual forage field day recently. The final session on April 16 will delve into rotational grazing.

Series is free, but you must register
