As the season progresses it's good to check in to see what's happening with crops. This time out on the Around Farm Progress Podcast, three editors share insights on some interesting issues for major crops.

Tom Bechman, Indiana Prairie Farmer, has been operating in-field plots for corn and soybeans for more than two decades. His work, which includes a lot of time placing flags, is aimed at learning more about how corn and soybeans grow under different conditions. He offers a look at some early information from this year, and this is a topic we will keep following this season.

John Hart, Southeast Farm Press, got out of his home office and traveled to an in-person field day in Virginia. The event, focused on small grains, was information-filled. Hart shares some of what he learned including innovations in wheat breeding to advance new varieties for the Eastern Seaboard more quickly. And he shares news of malt barley breeding being done for the region too.

The podcast wraps up with a report from Jennifer M. Latzke, Kansas Farmer, who talks with BASF about their hybrid wheat development program. The company has given it a new name, which you can learn about on the podcast.

And there's still time to join us at the Farm Futures Business Summit, which runs June 16 to June 17. It is preceded by the Ag Finance Boot Camp on June 15.
