The latest crop progress report shows a decrease of soybeans in the good/excellent categories. This week, the report shows 67%; last week, 70% of the soybeans were in good/excellent condition.

So far, here are the good/excellent conditions in the top five soybean producing states: Illinois (75%), Iowa (74%), Minnesota (74%), Nebraska (84%), North Dakota (73%).  The conditions remained steady in Illinois, but that was the only state among the top five. Conditions fell in Iowa by 3 points; one point in Minnesota; one point in Nebraska and 11 points in North Dakota.

Corn condition

The crop progress report shows 71% of the corn crop in good/excellent condition, that’s slightly down from 72% last week.

Here are the good/excellent conditions in the top five corn producing states: Iowa (75%), Illinois (81%), Nebraska (85%), Minnesota (77%), Kansas (48%). Conditions fell in all five states: They slid three points in Iowa; one point in Illinois; two points in Nebraska; one point in Nebraska and two points in Kansas.

Corn silking

The corn crop continues to be ahead of the four- year averages when it comes to maturity. The crop progress report shows 96% of the corn crop silking.

There are two states lagging in the Midwest: Michigan (81%) and Wisconsin (87%).

Corn dough

Farmers are reporting 57% of their corn crop is in the dough stage across the country. That’s up from the four-year average of 37%.

Wisconsin is the state with the least amount of corn in the dough state with only 28%. However, a look at the four year average shows it is still almost double the average of 15%. Even Michigan is ahead with 22% in the dough stage compared to the average of 17%.

Corn dented

The crop progress report shows 12% of the corn crop in the denting stage. That’s up from the four-year average of 6% at this point in the season.

Both Wisconsin and Michigan producers report none of their crop has reached this stage yet.

Soybeans blooming

The crop progress report shows 92% of the 2018 soybean crop is blooming, up from the average of 86%.

Most of the Midwest appears to be on the same track. The only state behind the four-year average is Michigan with 84% in bloom, compared to 88% average.

Setting pods

Farmers report 75% of the soybean crop is setting pods, that’s up from the four-year average of 58%.

Michigan (54%) is the only state in the Midwest behind the four-year average (58%).
