Corn conditions fell a point and soybeans gained a point in the good category from last week. According to the USDA NASS report, 48% of the corn is in good condition, down from the 49% last week. Last year, 54% of the corn was in good condition.

Soybean condition

On average, soybeans in good condition jumped 1 point over last week, now at 50%. Last year soybeans were 54%.

South Dakota and Ohio continue to struggle with their soybean crop. In Ohio, only 41% is in good condition and 38% in South Dakota.

Corn Dough

The NASS report shows 76% of the corn planted is now in the dough stage.

In the Midwest, Illinois leads with 91% in dough stage. Meanwhile, Indiana reports 80% and Iowa 78%. However, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania are falling behind. Wisconsin growers report 51% and Pennsylvania crop watchers report 47% in the dough stage.

Corn dented

Overall, 29% of the corn crop is in the dent stage. That’s down from the four-year average of 35%.

In the Midwest, Missouri leads with 64% in the dented stage, Illinois growers say 41% and 40% in Indiana. North Carolina is leading the pack with 89%; Texas reports 77% and Tennessee reports 72%.

Soybeans blooming

Soybean growers report 97% of the crop is blooming, right on target with the four-year average. States that are above average include Illinois, Minnesota, South Dakota, Arkansas, Mississippi and Nebraska.

Soybeans setting pods

The report shows 87% of the soybeans are setting pods. That’s up 2% from the national four-year average.

States above average include Illinois with 92%; Iowa at 88% and Minnesota 91%. Missouri, Kansas and Ohio are falling behind the average. Missouri reports 75% setting pods, Kansas 79% and 83% in Ohio.
