The USDA crop progress report shows corn and soybean condition to be good.

For most producers, all eyes are on the crop condition as most corn and soybeans have been planted.

The crop progress report shows 94 percent of the corn planted has emerged. That’s right in line with the four year average.

The three states falling behind are Wisconsin (84%); Ohio (88%) and Pennsylvania with 80%.

However, the corn condition fell slightly last week.  The crop progress report shows that 57% is in good condition. Last week, 58% was in good condition. Producers say 10% is in excellent condition—the same as last week.

Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania are below the average for this week. In Indiana, 39% is in good condition and 36% is in fair condition.  In Ohio, 43% is in good condition and 39% is in fair condition. And in Pennsylvania, 69% is in good condition and 15% is in fair condition.

The crop progress report shows 92 percent of the soybean crop has been planted in the 18 states that planted 95% of the 2016 soybean acreage. That’s up 5% from the four year average of 87%.

The 18 states report 77% of the soybeans planted have emerged. That’s in line with last year at this time but is up four percent from the four year average of 73%.

The four states falling below the average is Indiana (68%); Kansas (60%); Kentucky (51%); and North Carolina (57%).

According to the crop progress report, 57% of the soybean crop is in good condition. Last year at this time, 62% of the crop was in good condition.  Less than 9% of the soybean crop is in excellent condition and 28% is in fair condition.

In the Midwest, Indiana is struggling with only 44% in good condition and 37% in fair condition. Ohio producers say 45% of their soybean crop is in good condition and 38% is fair condition.

Other states struggling include South Dakota with 40% in good and 42% in fair condition and Mississippi with 47% in good and 30% in fair condition.
