The erratic spring planting season created a field landscape with crops in widely varying growth stages. Photographer Harlen Persinger documented this field variability in a two-mile stretch on Mayfair Road near Jackson, WI. He traveled the road in mid-July.

The fields ranged from corn at knee-high growth to tasseling. Persinger also noticed heat and moisture stress in some fields due to high temperatures. Thunderstorms have since rolled through the area, hopefully in time to rescue some crops.
