Syngenta Group brings together Syngenta, Adama and ag activities of Sinochem

A global seed and crop protection group has formed and is laying claim to significant market position but maintains a familiar name. Syngenta Group Co. Ltd., announced the official launch of Syngenta Group under a single entity that brings together Syngenta AG, based in Switzerland; Adama, based in Israel, and the ag businesses of Sinochem, based in China.

The new group will be based in Switzerland and has 48,000 employees in more than 100 countries, and had total sales of $23 billion in 2019. At it's start, the new group claims to be a global market leader in crop protection, No. 3 in seeds and a market leader in fertilizer in China. In addition, the group as the Modern Agriculture Platform Farmer Solution Centers, which is the leading ag service provider in China.

The new group has 15 production sites and has a mission to "deploy scientific innovations, technologies and services to help farmers sustainably provide the world with better food, feed, fiber and fuel, while conserving resources and protecting the environment," according to a media statement announcing the new group.

The new group will have four business units:

• Syngenta Crop Protection led by Jon Parr based in Basel, Switzerland

• Syngenta Seeds led by Jeff Rowe based in Chicago

• Adama led by Ignacio Dominguez based in Airport City, Israel

• Syngenta Group China led by Hengde Qin based in Shanghai

Erik Fyrwald, formerly CEO of Syngenta AG becomes Syngenta Group CEO; Chen Lichtenstein formerly CEO of Adama becomes Syngenta Group CFO; Steve Landsman becomes Syngenta Group General Counsel and Laure Roberts becomes Syngenta Group Chief Human Resources Officer.

In the announcement Fyrwald says "customers will continue to get the full attention of the businesses as they currently serve them, but the capabilities each brings will be enhanced where it adds value by collaboration across the Syngenta Group."

Each of the companies incorporated into Syngenta Group have a long history of accomplishment, reaching back over 250 years. In addition to Switzerland, Israel and China, the Group has deep roots in many other countries, including the United States where the global Syngenta Seeds business and R&D are headquartered, Brazil and UK.

Syngenta Group continues with its Good Growth Plan, with a commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United nations. According the statement in late June, the group will announce a new Good Growth Plan, which will be the organization's first major initiative after its launch and will address shifting challenges faced by farmers.

The company boast more than 100 research and development sites. Following is a look at the group's businesses for full year 2019 and First Quarter 2020:
