U.S. decline mirrors fall in Chinese cotton import numbers: Part I

If you want to understand why U.S. cotton prices have declined so precipitously, you only have to look at a graph showing Chinese cotton imports. Over the last five years, China’s imports have dropped from 43 percent to 25 percent to 7 or 8 percent of the U.S. total due to its reserve policies. The National Cotton Council’s Jody Campiche discussed those changes in a presentation at the American Cotton Producers meeting in Birmingham, Ala.
