Texas Tech fans whiteout the stadium to celebrate cotton

Football fans encouraged to look at their clothing labels before they purchase and wear 100 percent cotton to the game.

Cotton and football. A bit like salt and pepper: each unique on its own and yet the perfect combination when used together.

Saturday, Sept. 15, Texas Tech University joined forces with the cotton industry to host the seventh annual Celebrate Cotton Game at Lubbock, Texas. And just as the cotton fields on the Texas South Plains are on the brink of exploding with white bolls, fans were encouraged to wear white shirts made of 100 percent cotton, to whiteout Jones AT&T Stadium.

Outside of the football stadium, cotton and farming equipment were on display, while cotton bales labeled with cotton facts were placed inside the stadium near the concession stands. A video featuring cotton production and its importance, not only on the South Plains, but to the world, was played prior to kick off on the Texas Tech jumbotron. Corporate sponsors for Celebrate Cotton also took the field prior to kickoff. The event was sponsored by: Plains Cotton Growers, Ag Texas, BASF, FiberMax Cotton, City Bank, Nutrien Ag Solution, Netafim, Croplan, Cavender's and NexGen.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders played the University of Houston. The score was 63-49.
