Greene was elevated to the post during the NCC’s annual meeting in Tampa. He succeeds Kenneth Hood, cotton producer from Perthshire, Miss., who will serve as chairman of the Council’s executive committee in 2003.

A veteran of 25 years in the ginning industry, Greene is president and CEO of Servico, Inc., a cotton ginning and warehousing operation in Courtland. He also is CEO of Cottonseed Incorporated, and served as president and CEO of Producers Cotton Oil in California from 1990-1992.

In 2002, Greene served as the NCC’s vice-chairman, chairman of its Farm Program and Economic Policy Committee and president of the Southeastern Cotton Ginners Association. He has served as a director of Cotton Council International, chairman of the Joint Cotton Industry Bale Packaging Committee and president of the National Cotton Ginners Association.

Greene is a 1972 graduate of Auburn University and a member of the NCC’s 1984-85 Cotton Leadership Class. He received the Horace Hayden National Cotton Ginner of the Year Award in 1984. He serves as a director of Water Missions International, a Christian-based non-profit organization that provides safe drinking water to people of third world nations.

A member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Decatur, AL, he and his wife, Lou, have four sons.

Other NCC officers elected for 2003 include: Woody Anderson, a Colorado City, Texas, cotton producer, as vice chairman, and Stephen G. Felker, a Monroe, Ga. textile manufacturer, George Dunklin, Sr., a Pine Bluff, Ark., crusher; and Robert Weil II, a Montgomery, Ala., merchant, vice presidents.

Fred Underwood, a Lubbock, Texas, warehouseman, and Van A. May, a Lubbock, Texas, cooperative official, were re-elected NCC vice presidents, and Allen B. Helms, Jr. a Clarkedale, Ark., cotton producer, was re-elected as secretary-treasurer.

Mark Lange of Memphis was elected as NCC president and chief executive officer, succeeding Gaylon Booker, who has retired. Re-elected NCC staff officers were: Gary Adams, vice president, economic and policy analysis, Craig Brown, vice president, producer affairs; Bill M. Norman, vice president, ginner services; and Fred Johnson, vice president, administration and program coordination, all of Memphis; and John Maguire, senior vice president, Washington operations, and Allen Terhaar, vice president, foreign operations, both of Washington.
