The third annual Red River Crops Conference will offer two information-packed days covering production and management for cotton, grains, forages and livestock.
The 2016 conference, which alternates between Altus, Okla., and Childress, Texas, will be held at the Southwest Technology Center, 711 W. Tamarack in Altus Jan. 20 and 21.
Day one will concentrate on summer crops, including grain sorghum, wheat and peanuts, as well as livestock and forages. Day two is devoted to cotton.

“The goal of the Red River Crops Conference is to provide agricultural producers with relevant management information applicable to this production area that will create and enhance the profitability of farm and ranch enterprises, say conference organizers.
The conference coverage area spans across the state lines of Oklahoma and Texas. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and Oklahoma Cooperative Extension cooperate to develop a program to address special agricultural production circumstances affecting the region, which features common crop options and production challenges.
The 2016 conference agenda covers a wide range of topics including: Crop rotation; grain and forage sorghum production; the economics of transitioning from row crop to livestock production; wheat breeding; peanut production; grain, cotton and livestock markets; risk management for cotton production; herbicide programs for cotton, including XtendFlex and Enlist; salinity management; cotton genetics; and a grower panel discussing innovative cotton production systems.
Available continuing education units include 11.5 for Certified Crop Advisors 6 from the Texas Department of Agriculture and 4 from the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry.
