We like to share a range of different aspects about farming in Around Farm Progress. This time out we're talking cotton, and more specifically cotton classing. Shelley Huguley, editor, Southwest Farm Press, shares insight on a story she's been following since 2019.

A new USDA Lubbock Cotton Classification Complex is going up on the campus of Texas Tech University. The state-of-the-art facility will offer higher throughput, greater precision and enhanced data capture. Add in that it's on a university campus, and there are other benefits too.

And for Midwesterners who have traveled south and seen cotton in the field, check out this podcast to learn just how farmers raising the fiber crop get paid. It's a little different, and fascinating. And you can check out Shelley's coverage of the new facility online.

Give it a listen.
