Growers talk cotton at National Cotton Council annual meeting

Cotton prices aren't where anyone wants them, drought concerns continue to plague growers in some states and the 2014 farm bill is proving more challenging than expected.

But that didn't stop the members of the National Cotton Council from gathering in Memphis to celebrate the successes of one year and discuss preparations for the next at the NCC's annual meeting at the Peabody Hotel - the hotel where the organization was founded nearly 80 years ago.

This year's annual meeting was not as contentious as some have been in recent years. The Council achieved most of its objectives in the Agricultural Act of 2014 and passed only resolution aimed at addressing a troubling issue in the law. That authorized Council leadership to begin asking Congress to authorize the use of commodity certificates to help growers facing problems because marketing loan gains are now included in the payment limit calculation.
