Cotton farmers need more than great weed control. They need herbicides that can be applied near other crops.

Many cotton farmers are surrounded by a diverse range of crops. They need to be aware of what’s growing around them and adopt a weed control system that is friendly to other crops, including peanuts. The Enlist™ weed control system gives them the ability to control weeds with herbicides that stay on target to avoid damage to nearby crops.

When battling tough weeds like Palmer amaranth, cotton farmers need effective herbicides. Those who plant PhytoGen® brand varieties with the Enlist trait can apply Enlist herbicides postemergence. Enlist One™ herbicide is a straight-goods 2,4-D choline that offers additional tank-mix options, such as glufosinate, a significant additional mode of action for cotton growers facing Palmer amaranth and other difficult species. Farmers also can apply Enlist Duo® herbicide, a combination of new 2,4-D choline and glyphosate, for fields where glyphosate continues to provide value.

Both Enlist herbicides feature Colex-D® technology, a breakthrough formulation component that minimizes drift and offers near-zero volatility. These herbicides offer valuable weed control in areas containing diverse crops. The Enlist system fits well in areas with soybean and peanut production. No field separation is needed when Enlist™ cotton is planted next to a field of peanuts, rice, corn or soybeans without the Enlist trait.

Enlist crops also work well in areas where farmers are using 2,4-Db on peanuts: Enlist cotton tolerates 2,4-Db. Austin Warbington, a Georgia farmer who plants both cotton and peanuts, traditionally uses 2,4-Db on his peanut acres. He worries less about unintended spray drift from his peanut applications harming nearby Enlist™ cotton.

“Farmers who’ve sprayed Enlist herbicides near other crops have had great success in avoiding drift issues, including near other crops without the Enlist trait,” says Ryan Miller, market development and new technology specialist. “When applied according to the label, Enlist herbicides have shown limited drift and almost no volatility.”

“In our area, we have some sensitive crops including watermelons and pecan trees,” Warbington says. “Managing drift is extremely important. During and after the Enlist Duo application, we didn’t notice any drift at all.”

Naturally, farmers want — and need — effective weed control for their cotton fields. But they also need the peace of mind that comes from knowing they can apply an effective herbicide that will stay on target. The Enlist weed control system is a solid option for cotton growers who understand the value of on-target application.
