The San Patricio County Crop Tour will be conducted Thursday, June 7, beginning at 3:45 p.m. at the Butter Churn Restaurant, 207 West Sinton, Sinton, Texas. The tour bus will leave at 4 p.m.  Site visits will include the new BCCA Mill & Cube in Tynan, corn hybrid tests, cotton variety tests and evaluation of TopGuard for cotton root rot control.

Topics of discussion during the event will include: crop management tips, boll weevil eradication status, grain indemnity referendum, and farm policy update.  CEUs will be awarded for TDA and CCA.  The tour will conclude with meal and program at the Butter Churn by 8 p.m.  All planning to attend should pre-register by calling (361) 364-6234 by June 6.

The Annual Nueces County Crop Tour will take place on Friday, June 8 with registration at 8:30 a.m. at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center at 10345, State Hwy 44, just west of the Corpus Christi Airport, followed by the tour bus departing promptly at 8:45 a.m. Those planning to participate in this tour should make reservations by contacting the Nueces County Extension Office at (361) 767-5223 by June 4, 2012.

In addition to touring the traditional cotton and grain sorghum variety tests in the county, this year the tour will feature a discussion regarding new technology available to manage cotton root rot and is being evaluated in a test with the fungicide TopGuard at different rates west of Robstown. 

Other topics to be addressed during the tour event will include: drought impact on current crop, new grain sorghum and cotton technology, weed herbicide resistance management, crop insect management strategies, sorghum harvest aids, farm policy, grain indemnity referendum, boll weevil eradication, and new energy crop research.

The tour will conclude at the Research and Extension Center with a catered lunch and educational presentations.  Pesticide applicators will be able to obtain 3 CEUs for participation in this event. The event will conclude by 2:30 p.m.  The tour is being sponsored by the Nueces County Extension Crops Committee, Texas AgriLife Extension Service and numerous agribusinesses.
