2011 cotton acreage in Arizona is expected to total 234,000 acres, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service. This is a 18 percent increase compared to the 197,500 acres planted last year in the Grand Canyon State.

Growers of upland cotton intend to plant 225,000 acres this year, an increase of 30,000 acres from last year.

American-Pima producers plan to plants 9,000 acres, up 6,500 acres from last season.

For United States, all cotton plantings for 2011 are expected to total 12.6 million acres, 18 percent above last year. Upland acreage is expected to total 12.3 million acres, up 14 percent from 2010. American Pima acreage is expected to total 252,500 acres, up 24 percent from 2010.

Cotton acreage increases are expected in every state with the largest increase of 548,000 acres expected in Texas. Acreage increases of more than 100,000 acres are expected in North Carolina, Georgia, and Mississippi.
