Arizona’s all cotton production on Nov. 1 is forecast at 422,700 bales, unchanged from the Oct. 1 forecast and 4 percent above the final 2008 production, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service’s Phoenix, Ariz., field office.

Acres for harvest are 140,300, 6,500 acres higher than 2008. All cotton yield at 1,446 pounds per acre is down 10 pounds from last year.

Arizona’s 139,000 acres of upland cotton for harvest are expected to produce 420,000 bales, unchanged from last month, and 15,000 bales more than last year. The crop is expected to yield 1,450 pounds per acre, down 12 pounds from the previous season.

Arizona’s 1,300 acres of American-Pima cotton for harvest are expected to produce 2,700 bales, unchanged from last month, and up 1,900 bales from 2008. This year’s crop is expected to yield 997 pounds per acre, up 517 pounds from last year.

California upland cotton is forecast at 218,000 bales, down 41 percent from a year earlier.

California American-Pima is forecast at 330,000 bales, down 18 percent from a year earlier.

U.S. all cotton production is forecast at 12.5 million 480-pound bales, down 4 percent from last month and down 2 percent from last year. Yield is expected to average 776 pounds per harvested acre, down 31 pounds from last month and down 37 pounds from 2008.

U.S. Upland cotton production is forecast at 12.1 million 480-pound bales, down 4 percent from last month and down 2 percent from last year.

The U.S. American-Pima production forecast at 367,000 bales was carried forward from the August 2009 forecast.
