The latest Arizona Agri-Weekly report from the Arizona Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service released June 13.

Field crops

Cotton planting is virtually complete. Squaring has occurred on 40 percent of the state’s acreage, ahead of the five-year average of 31 percent. Some fields have set bolls in western areas of the state. The cotton crop varies from fair to excellent condition.

Alfalfa condition remains mostly good to excellent. Harvest is active in nearly all areas.

Vegetable, fruit, and specialty crops

Arizona growers harvested onions, potatoes, cantaloupes, honeydews, and other melons.

Range and pasture

Range and pasture conditions vary from very poor to good depending on the location and elevation.

High winds continue to dry out forage conditions. Livestock have been moved due to wildfires in southern and eastern Arizona.

Weather summary

Temperatures were mostly below normal for the week ending June 12, ranging from 10 degrees below normal at Parker to 2 degrees above normal at Willcox.

The highest temperature of the week was 105 degrees at Phoenix. The lowest reading was 24 degrees at Grand Canyon.

No precipitation was recorded at the state’s 22 weather stations. All weather stations, except in Kingman, have below normal precipitation to date.
