The latest Arizona Agri-Weekly Report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service in Phoenix, Ariz., released July 5.

Field crops

Squaring has occurred on 70 percent of Arizona’s cotton acreage, ahead of the five-year average of 66 percent. Approximately 30 percent of the acreage has set bolls mostly along the Colorado River area. The condition of the cotton crop remains good to excellent.

Alfalfa condition is mostly good to excellent. Harvesting is active on over three-fourths of the acreage across the state.

Vegetable, fruit, and specialty crops

This week Arizona growers harvested onions, grapefruit, cantaloupe, honeydew, and other elons.

Weather summary

Temperatures were mostly above normal for the week ending July 3, ranging from 5 degrees below normal at Parker to 10 degrees above normal at Willcox.

The highest temperature was 118 degrees at Phoenix. The lowest reading was 38 degrees at Flagstaff and Grand Canyon.

There was precipitation recorded in seven of the 22 AZMET weather stations. The least amount of precipitation was recorded in Coolidge with 0.01 inches. The most rain was recorded in Safford with 0.24 inches.

All weather stations, except Kingman, have below normal precipitation to date.
