The Arizona Agri-Weekly report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service in Phoenix, Ariz., released Jan. 23, 2012.

Field crops

Cotton harvest is virtually complete - nearly the same as last year and the five-year average.

Alfalfa conditions remain mostly fair to good. Harvesting continues in a few areas across the state.

Barley seeding is in its final stage. Durum seeding is about two-thirds complete.

Vegetable, fruit, and specialty crops

Central Arizona growers shipped broccoli, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, kale, bok choy, cilantro, parsley, and citrus.

Western Arizona growers shipped broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, Chinese cabbage, endive, escarole, frisee, kale, Boston, green leaf, iceberg, processed, red leaf and romaine lettuces. Also shipped were bok choy, arugula, cilantro, parsley, radicchio, spinach, and citrus.

Weather summary

Temperatures were mostly above normal for the week ending Jan. 22, ranging from 3 degrees below normal at Parker to 12 degrees above normal at Winslow.

The highest temperature was 75 degrees at Douglas and Maricopa. The lowest reading was 13 degrees at Grand Canyon.

Precipitation was recorded in 11 of the 21 weather stations. The least amount of precipitation was recorded in the Kingman area with 0.01 inches. The Flagstaff area received the most at 0.39 inches.
