Field crops

Cotton harvest is 90 percent complete, behind last year and behind the five-year average of 95 percent complete.

Alfalfa conditions are mostly fair to good. Harvest remains active in a few areas across the state. Sheep have been brought in to graze and lamb on some alfalfa fields.

Barley seeding is just above the 50 percent complete mark. Durum seeding is about one-third complete.

Vegetable, fruit, and specialty crops

Central Arizona growers shipped bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, cilantro, kale, parsley, and lemons.

Western Arizona growers shipped arrugula, bok choy, broccoli, cauliflower, Chinese cabbage, celery, cilantro, endive, escarole, frisee, kale, and various lettuces including Boston, green leaf, iceberg, red leaf, and romaine. Also shipped were parsley, radicchio, and spinach.

Weather summary

Temperatures were mostly above normal for the week ending Jan.1, ranging from 2 degrees below normal at Parker to 10 degrees above normal at Grand Canyon and Prescott.

The highest temperature of the week was 82 degrees at Coolidge. The lowest reading was 6 degrees at Grand Canyon.

No precipitation was recorded at the state’s 21 weather stations.
