The latest Arizona Agri-Weekly report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service Field Office in Phoenix, Ariz., released Oct. 11, 2011.

Field crops

Nearly all of Arizona’s cotton acreage has open bolls. Harvest is 22 percent complete, just below the five-year average of 24 percent. The condition of the cotton crop varies from fair to excellent.

Alfalfa condition is mostly fair to good. Harvesting is active on over two-thirds of the acreage across Arizona.

Vegetable, fruit, and specialty crops

Arizona growers shipped cantaloupes, honeydews, and lemons.

Weather summary

Temperatures were mostly below normal for the week ending Oct. 9, ranging from 10 degrees below normal at Parker and Aguila to 4 degrees above normal at Douglas.

The highest temperature of the week was 102 degrees at Yuma. The lowest reading was 24 degrees at Grand Canyon.

Precipitation was recorded in 20 of the 22 weather stations. The least precipitation was recorded in Douglas and Yuma with 0.01 inches. The most precipitation was recorded in Flagstaff with 1.57 inches.

Roll and Tucson are the only weather stations with above normal precipitation for the year. Prescott is 49 percent of normal.
