Field crops

Cotton conditions remain fair to excellent. Harvesting is 68 percent complete, behind last year at 82 percent, and behind the five-year average of 81 percent.

Most alfalfa is in fair to excellent condition. Harvesting is active on about two-thirds of Arizona’s acreage. Range and pasture conditions vary from very poor to good. Last year at this time, 85 percent were very poor to poor. Currently 36 percent is very poor to poor.

Vegetables, fruit, and specialty crops

Central Arizona growers shipped bok choy, cabbage, cantaloupes, Chinese cabbage, cilantro, honeydews, kale greens, and parsley.

Western Arizona growers shipped arugula, bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, cantaloupes, cauliflower, celery, Chinese cabbage, cilantro, endive, escarole, frisee, honeydews, kale greens, Boston, green leaf, iceberg, red leaf, romaine, and other lettuce, miscellaneous melons, parsley, radicchio, and spinach.

Weather summary

Temperatures were mostly below average across Arizona, ranging from 6 degrees below normal at Douglas/Bisbee to 3 degrees above normal at Grand Canyon and Prescott.

The highest temperature of the week was 83 degrees at Marana. The lowest reading at minus 4 degrees occurred at Flagstaff.

Precipitation was recorded in five of the 22 stations this week. Phoenix received the least at .01 inches of precipitation. Flagstaff received the most at .18 inches.
