Arizona’s all cotton production as of Nov. 1 is forecast at 605,000 bales, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in Phoenix, Ariz.
This figure is unchanged from NASS’ Oct. 1 forecast but 35 percent above the final 2009 production.
Acres for harvest at 195,500 are up 49,900 acres from 2009. All cotton yield at a record high 1,485 pounds per acre is 12 pounds higher from last year.
Arizona’s 193,000 acres of upland cotton for harvest are expected to produce 600,000 bales, unchanged from last month, but 157,000 bales more than last year. The crop is expected to yield a record high 1,492 pounds per acre, up 15 pounds from the previous season.
Arizona’s 2,500 acres of American-Pima cotton for harvest are expected to produce 5,000 bales, 1,100 bales higher than the 2009 production.
The California upland cotton is forecast at 380,000 bales, an increase of 140,000 from a year earlier.
California American-Pima cotton is forecast at 450,000 bales, an increase of 89,000 bales from last year.
U.S. all cotton production is forecast at 18.4 million 480-pound bales, down 2 percent from last month but up 51 percent from last year's 12.2 million bales. Yield is expected to average 821 pounds per harvested acre, up 44 pounds from last year.
U.S. upland cotton production is forecast at 17.9 million 480-pound bales, down 2 percent from last month but 52 percent above 2009. Producers in Texas and Oklahoma are expecting decreased yields from last month.
