Cotton: weather damage in Mississippi

Almost daily rainfall from Sept. 8 until Sept. 26 has caused significant damage to row crops in many areas of the state. Very little cotton had been defoliated prior to the excessive rainfall and none had been harvested.

However, boll rot and hardlock has affected the vast majority of the cotton in the state with damage ranging from 10 to 75 percent.

In the Oct. 2 issue of Mississippi Crop Situation, the state’s crop specialists update the situation in cotton and other crops.
