Cotton quilt raises funds for education

A lovely, hand-made, 100 percent cotton quilt will go home with a lucky person attending this year's Mid-South Farm & Gin Show at Memphis, Tenn.

The Picking Up The Pieces Quilt Guild of Memphis has donated the cotton-themed quilt to the Southern Cotton Ginners Association to raise funds for the organization's youth education activity programs.

“This is the second year the guild has made a quilt especially for this purpose,” says Debbie Cresanto. “This year's pattern selection was made by Ellie Mills, Block of the Month chairperson.”

The quilt pattern features a log cabin block with the life cycle of a cotton boll appliquéd in the center. Every member of the quilt guild made at least one block, after which members sewed the top together. Cresanto then quilted it.

Guild members will be staffing a booth at the show, Friday/Saturday, March 3-4, at the Memphis Cook Convention Center, offering $2 tickets for a chance to win the quilt.
