In the July 13 issue of the Delta Farm Press Daily e-newsletter, and the July 16 print edition of Delta Farm Press, the miscanthus variety “Nagara” was mistakenly identified as being commercially available. “Nagara,” a proprietary cultivar of Mendel BioEnergy Seeds, has not been offered for sale in the U.S., nor has it been licensed to any other parties for commercial propagation and distribution, according to Dr. Donald M. Panter, senior vice president for the company.

“We have made significant investments in research and development with the goal of offering superior commercial products for our growers,” he says. “Today we employ about 25 scientists and business professionals, operating out of four breeding stations east of the Mississippi River, along with laboratories and production activities in Texas and California, to develop the newest generation of miscanthus cultivars aimed at addressing our country’s ever-increasing need for biomass. These cultivars, such as Nagara, will be offered to our customers as part of a dedicated biomass supply chain system in the near-future.”
