Renwood Farms in Charles City will be the site of the 2017 Virginia Ag Expo set for Thursday, Aug. 3.

Renwood Farms is owned and operated by the Stanley Hula family and is a large diversified operation producing corn, soybeans and small grains on more than 6,000 acres in southern Virginia. The farm is the site of the world record corn yield of 532 bushels per acre produced by David Hula in 2015.

The theme of this year’s expo is “Focused on Productivity, Management and Stewardship.” The Virginia Ag Expo is the largest agricultural field day held in Virginia. The expo opens at 7:30 a.m. with field tours beginning at 8 a.m. Renwood Farms is located at 17303 Sandy Point Road in Charles City, VA 23030.

The field tour will feature the Virginia on-farm corn and soybean variety test. Plots will demonstrate in-furrow and pop up fertilizers on corn and soybeans; biologically-based nitrogen soil testing; manganese-coated potassium fertilizer; potassium needs for 100-plus bushel soybeans; seed treatments on early emergence and vigor in corn; planting date vs relative maturity in soybeans; soil quality for high yields including a soil pit along with controlled traffic farming; low population soybeans and simulated drift of commonly used herbicides. In the afternoon there will be field demonstrations of a chopping corn header compared to regular headers.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided by Virginia food vendors. Attendees will be able to eat any time from 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM.

Renwood Farms, located some ten miles west of historic Jamestown on the James River in Charles City County, is owned and operated by the descedents of Stanley Hula, Sr. From the original purchase in 1937 to 1971,  Renwood Farm was owned and operated by Stanley Hula, Sr.  In 1971 Renwood Farms, Inc. was formed to be the farm operation.  Today the operation  is owned and operated by Stanley Hula, Jr. and his sons David, Johnny and Jeff Hula.
