Corn maturity and soybean leaf drop this fall are close to average rates. Corn harvest and soybean harvest, however, are significantly behind the average. Despite that, crop conditions continue to hold steady for both corn and soybeans.

Corn

Seventy-seven percent of the overall corn crop has reached maturity. This is only 4 points behind the five-year average. Corn harvest is lagging behind average, with only 17% of the overall crop harvested. On average, nearly one-third of the overall crop has been harvested at this point. Several states have harvested less than 10% of their corn, including: Iowa (5%), Michigan (3%), Minnesota (5%), North Dakota (1%), South Dakota (5%) and Wisconsin (3%).

Despite the late harvest, crop conditions are holding steady from last week, still sitting at 74% good/excellent. Only 7% of the overall corn crop is in very poor/poor condition. Corn in the best condition is in Missouri (87% good/excellent) and Tennessee (86%). Kansas has the most corn in very poor/poor condition at 16%.
