North Dakota’s ethanol industry may seem small, but it is mighty. It dates back to 1985, when two small plants were built in Grafton and Walhalla.

According a 2017 North Dakota State University Agribusiness and Applied Economics report, North Dakota continues to be well positioned to produce ethanol thanks to ample supplies of corn and a well-developed truck and rail transportation system.
