Mark Scott of Wentzville, Mo., is the new chairman of the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council.

Scott was elected at the August board meeting, but his term started at the beginning of October. He previously served the state’s corn growers as MCMC vice chairman and treasurer, as well as Missouri Corn Growers Association vice president. Scott also represents corn farmers nationally, currently serving on the National Corn Growers Association Resolutions Task Force and U.S. Grains Council Middle East/Africa Action Team.

“It is an honor to work on behalf of Missouri’s corn farmers and lead the council,” Scott says. “Looking to the year ahead, MCMC will work to ensure checkoff dollars are used to expand new and current markets for corn both at home and abroad. In addition to moving grain, our partnerships with the U.S. Grains Council and U.S. Meat Export Federation provide big opportunities to increase corn usage through meat, ethanol and distillers grains exports.”

The MCMC board of directors is comprised of 15 farmers elected from across the state. This volunteer board was formed in 1984 with the passage of a corn checkoff and is committed to market development, research and education.

Other MCMC officers include: Vice Chairman Greg Schneider, Warrenton, District 6; Secretary Jay Fischer, Jefferson City, District 5; and Treasurer Jay Schutte, Benton City, District 3.

Also elected in August were the 2017-18 Missouri Corn Growers Association officers. They include: President Kyle Kirby, Liberal, District 4; Vice President Mike Moreland, Harrisonville, District 4; and Secretary/Treasurer Clint Stephens, Advance, District 7.

Several Missouri leaders have also been appointed to serve on National Corn Growers Association action teams and committees. Morris Heitman was renamed to the Freedom to Operate Action Team. Moreland will again serve on the Risk Management Action Team. Schutte was named chairman of the Ethanol Action Team. Schneider was reappointed to the Corn Productivity and Quality Action Team. Brian Lehman was named to the Consumer Engagement Action Team as well as the Resolutions Committee. Scott will again serve on the Resolutions Task Force. Additionally, Gary Porter is currently a director on the National Corn Board.
