Corn harvest is well under way in the Florida Panhandle and growers are reporting good yields to go along with good harvest weather.

Corn acreage was up about 30 percent in the area due to spring prices favoring the crop on irrigated land.

Columbia County, Fla., Extension Agent Mace Bauer reports thunderstorms have blown some of the crop down and there are limited hopperbottom trailers and dump trailers available to haul all the crop.

Bauer followed 83 Farms, LLC from the field to the drying bins and onto the buyers in Lake City with their crop. He says the corn was being loaded directly onto railcars to be taken into north Georgia and the Carolinas to meet the needs of the livestock industries in those areas.

For an excellent video of the entire process, see Corn harvest in full swing.
