Penn State Extension’s “Farming for Success” field day will be from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. June 22 at the Southeast Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Manheim.

The center is located at 1446 Auction Road. The field day is for farmers, industry representatives and other agricultural professionals, and will feature a wide range of crop production topics.

Dan Ciolkosz, an associate professor of ag and biological engineering at Penn State, will give the keynote address at the event with a talk on solar power and how it can be incorporated on the farm.

Tour tracks will focus on injecting vs. broadcasting manure; in-furrow and traditional disease management in corn and soybeans; vertical tillage; the role and management of soil microbes; and more.

The cost is $10 to register or $15 at the door. The field day is supported by the Pennsylvania Corn Growers Association, the Pennsylvania Soybean Board and local ag businesses.

Ag field diagnostics clinic planned

Circle July 19 on your calendar for the annual agronomic field diagnostics clinic at Penn State’s Russell E. Larson Ag Research Center (the site of Ag Progress Days).

The event will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will cover topics such as managing winter wheat with a growth regulator, microbial products for nitrogen fixation in corn, scouting and management of tar spot, and diagnosing and fixing soil erosion threats.

The cost is $50 per person by July 12; $70 per person after July 12. The rain date is July 20.

Organic field day set

Rodale Institute’s annual organic field day will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 22.

You’ll have the chance to visit nearly 20 demonstrations on Rodale’s 386-acre experimental farm outside Kutztown, Pa.

The stations include Rodale’s long-running Farming Systems Trial; the vegetable systems trial; industrial hemp; high tunnels and grafted tomatoes; composting; no-till management; pastured hog production; and honeybee conservancy.

The cost is $25 per person.
