Farmers are reporting that more of the corn crop across the United States is in good condition then compared to 2015.

One state, farmers in Wisconsin are reporting 34 percent of the crop is in excellent condition. That is way above the average of the major corn producing states which is reporting 19 percent.

The 18 states that planted the majority of the corn in the United States in 2015 that the average in good condition is 57 percent compared to the average of 52 percent in 2015, according to the latest USDA NASS report. Iowa, Kansas and Illinois producers reported 58 percent of their corn crops are in good condition. Overall, Nine of the 18 states reported that over 57 percent of the crop is in good condition as of July 17, 2016.

Producers in Texas, North Carolina, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee are reporting 70 percent of the crop is silking. The average among the top 18 corn producing states is 56 percent., that’s up about 10 percent from last year and the past four year average.

Soybeans

Soybean producers in the top 18 producing states are reporting that 57 percent of the crop is in good condition. Louisiana producers are reporting 66 percent of the soybean crop there is in good condition. The report shows producers are reporting the crop just a little better than last year when 50 percent of the soybean producers reported the crop in good condtion.

Again, one state stands out when it comes to reporting the soybean condition in excellent condtion. Wisconsin is reporting 29 percent of the crop in excellent condition as of July 17, 2016. This is way above the average of the major soybean producing states of 14 percent and the average from last year of 12 percent.

The average in the 18 major soybean producing states  for soybean plants blooming is 59 percent compared to the average over the past four years of 49 percent.

Although blooms are a good sign, what really matters to soybean producers is the number of pods on a plant. The USDA Nass report shows the average in the 18 states setting pods is 18. However, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi are reporting over 50 percent of the plants are setting pods. The average over the past four years for this week is 13 percent.

Producers in Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, North Dakota, North Carolia, Wisconsin and Tennessee are reporting between 15 percent and 28 percent are reporting plants setting pods.
