Corn Stocks Up 50% from September 2013; Soybean Stocks Down 35%

Corn stocks up are up significantly from 2013, and bushels in on-farm storage are up 68% from last year, according to the Sept. 30 Grain Stocks Report from USDA. Soybean stocks, on the other hand, are down about a third from last year, and on-farm stored beans are down nearly 50% from 2013.

Old-crop corn stocks in all positions on Sept. 1, 2014 totaled 1.24 billion bushels, up 50% from Sept. 1, 2013. Of the total stocks, 462 million bushels are stored on farms, up 68% from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, at 774 million bushels, are up 42% from a year ago. The June-August 2014 indicated disappearance is 2.62 billion bushels, compared with 1.95 billion bushels during the same period last year.

Old-crop soybeans stored in all positions on Sept. 1, 2014 totaled 92.0 million bushels, down 35% from Sept. 1, 2013. Soybean stocks stored on farms totaled 21.3 million bushels, down 46% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 70.6 million bushels, are down 30% from last September. Indicated disappearance for June-August 2014 totaled 313 million bushels, up 6% from the same period a year earlier.
